Learn how to be a likable and effective leader

Terry Sumerlin has a unique background: he's a barber and a professional speaker. As you might expect, the book reads like a visit to the barbershop - conversational, topical, common sensical and peppered with humor and keen observations. It consists of more than 70 vignettes based on his own experiences and those of people he knows, each concluding with a "leadership principle" - a moral to the story if you will.
Terry writes with refreshing simplicity, and uses his homespun Texas humor to take the edge off his more critical observations. The thing I liked most about his stories is how down to earth and real they are. The things that happen to Terry - getting hopelessly lost on the way to a business meeting, trying to control his anger when he's getting hassled, failing to stay on top of the more tedious aspects of his business - this is all the same kind of stuff that happens to me and probably you as well. This is why the points he makes are so memorable and persuasive.
If you enjoy lofty leadership theories written in business school jargon - this book is not for you. On the other hand, if you are a current or aspiring business leader who wants practical advice you can grasp quickly, you won't be disappointed!

Great Read

Just finished reading Terry's newest book, Leadership: It Takes More Than a Great Haircut! Just like his previous books, nothing short of inspirational. I for one love short inspirational stories that hit you right between the eyes and tests your character and relationships with your faith, family, coworkers, and friends. With every chapter, in such a simple way, Terry teaches us how to ensure our interpersonal compass is set on true North. Terry not only possesses an uncanny skill for the English language, but also the ability to make you check yourself at the door if I may use such a clich�. Keep up the good work Terry

Get Your Haircut AND Read This Book

I've just finished the Kindle edition of Leadership: It Takes More Than a Haircut, by Terry Sumerlin. From the barbershop, from his speaking circuit and from his own devotion to learning and good living Terry provides his readers with high value content that is both instructive and entertaining.
It is fun to read this book. You encounter Terry's wit with good, clean humor. The author helps us understand that "humor sells ideas, reduces stress and builds relationships." The humor will keep your interests focused on the principles.
This is a book about people. Terry's research for this book was in the barber shop, in his business relationships, in his audiences, in his church and in his family. He draws from these common sources to instruct us and help us deal with people.
Terry's book is about leadership. And every chapter ends with a leadership principle like, "Beware of making good thinking a casualty of reckless words."
