Khalil Rafati is a speaker, author, and health-and-wellness entrepreneur. He has been a dog walker, a nanny, a car detailer, a furniture maker, a rehab counselor, a restaurant manager, and a drug dealer.

Today, he is the owner of Malibu Beach Yoga and SunLife Organics, a rapidly growing chain of popular juice and smoothie bars in California. He also founded Riviera Recovery, a transitional living facility for drug addicts and alcoholics, and is a board member of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Bylakuppe, India.

Loving What Is

I first heard about Khalil's inspirational story on the Rich Roll podcast and I was compelled to learn more about his story because he emanates an incredible peace and calm. In particular, I was moved by his ability to forgive the people in his childhood who had caused the traumas which ended up pushing him toward a reckless life of drug addiction. His acceptance/surrender of his past allowed me to start moving toward my own journey of forgiveness and self-acceptance. His book can be deeply healing for anyone because its underlying themes of unmet childhood needs, trauma, self-acceptance, redemption, friendship and finding significance are universal. The fact his life is particularly fascinating being under the employ of multiple celebrities, the depths of drug addiction and finding a life of purpose, service and love. Without spoiling the book, the amount of serendipity in this story is incredible and beautiful, and redemptive.

Powerful

This is probably one of the best addiction books I have ever read (and I have read hundreds of them!) I myself have been in recovery for 4 years. I was a raging alcoholic and I have 2 nephews (ages 20 and 23) who are addicted to meth and heroin and are both sitting in prison at this very moment. That is the very reason I chose to read this book....I wanted to gain more insight on what fuels a heroin addict. My family has been torn apart for many years, thanks to addiction. I only pray that once my nephews are out of prison, they will see the light just as Khalil did.

LOVED this book! No choking involved!

I loved this story!It had everything I love in a book, older characters, some mysterious threat, and a damsel in distress. Emory felt like a "real" character to me...slighty nerdy, more comfortable in her lounging clothes...there was, of course, the gay neighbor and the mafia thrown in, but surprisingly, they worked well. Gray was hot and not skanky and I really enjoyed it.
That being said...I HATE the title. I have no idea what it even means. I thought going in that this book might be about BDSM and submission and choking Emory during sex. Seriously. I'm guessing naked choke is an MMA term, but I don't know enough about, or care enough about that, to have caught any mention of it in the book.
So, read this book! It's NOT BDSM, it's NOT over the top sex, there is some nakedness, but no choking (thank goodness).
*Copy received by publisher for honest review--but I liked it so much, I went and bought my OWN copy....and paperback...and recommended on my social media. :) **

Suspenseful and full of heat!

Emory doesn't know what men want in the dating world. She had only every been with her sons father for 15 years. Until the time she found him in bed with another woman. Now 4 years later, her son is off to college, and she has no idea what men in this day and age want from a date. And then she met Grey. She was drawn to him immediately and it appeared he was drawn to her, not all the young women. Grey took one look at Emory and knew he was in trouble. She didn't even know he was The Green Machine - MMA former fighter and now trainer. He wanted that smile all to himself. She was entirely too good for him, but he didn't care - he had to make her his. When her home was broken into, he knew she was it for him. But could she handle his dark past? Or would he lose her because of it. And could he keep her safe from the one person that had the ability to ruin his life once again.

Awful and misleading title but GREAT story.

The title of this book was so off-putting to me I only read the synopsis because I was desperate for a new read. I purchased based on the other reviews and I'm glad I did. This was a sweet story with a cast of very likable characters. I loved how the H thought the h had raised her son to be a man and liked her more for it. There were no games between the characters, just two people honestly exploring their connection and attraction to each other. The H was ware of the h's vulnerability and accepted and reassured her. She was not whiney or needy, just refreshingly honest, telling it like it is and put herself out there, hoping to be accepted. This is a great story and I'd like to read more stories based on this formula.

Excellent Book on Real Analysis

Whether you are a newbie to real analysis who is still unsure of how the reals are constructed or a veteran in the field seeking to sharpen your knowledge with some hardcore measure theory, this book serves both extremes. The author starts off from the absolute fundamentals of field and order axioms and works all the way up to Banach spaces while essentially spoon-feeding you with detailed and easy-to-follow proofs of otherwise abstruse theorems; in fact, they are so detailed and sometimes so obvious that I ended up skipping every other line of most proofs. Also, copious exercises (bordering on excessive), ranging from your run-of-the-mill proofs of why sin(x) is continuous to more intriguing problems like proving the uniqueness of the reals, provide the student with every opportunity to practice and master the material.

Very accessible with excellent examples and resources!

This text is very accessible and provides many excellent examples and resources. Vagle starts with basic understandings of phenomena and intentionality using insight from Merleau-Ponty, Sartre, Gadamer, Deleuze, and Sokolowski. He describes how phenomenology has grown from Husserl to Heidegger to contemporary variants such as Smith, Flowers, & Larkin's interpretive phenomenological analysis. He explains the different approaches from Giorgi, van Manen, and Dahlberg. This allows the reader to understand the philosophical commitments that underpin various phenomenological research approaches. This text is particularly valuable for scholars who want to put phenomenology in dialogue with post-structural theories (e.g., Grumet and Ahmed). Vagle's post-intentional phenomenology is useful for researchers who are exploring a phenomenon in multiple and varied contexts. This text provides a clear entry point into phenomenology and the philosophy. It is an excellent book!

Great read!

I have read quite a few phenomenological texts, but found this one to be accessible in a way that helped me make important connections with concepts. In addition to talking about his own approach, post-intentional phenomenology, he takes time to honor the original work of Husserl and Heidegger as well as the more recent work done by Dahlberg and van Manen. I highly recommend this book.

I first read this book in Chinese when I was 11. Although I didn't fully understand the political side of the novel, it left me crying over the story for weeks. I have reread it many times since, and it has never failed to move me. The authur explores human nature in all ways possible and touches your heart with an intensity. Arthur, a young Christian in the 19th Century when Italy was under Austrian rule, is the hero of this book. The 19 year old boy's protected world is broken when he learns that his tutor - Father of church - is actually his birth father. At the same time that he finds he has been betrayed by the only person he trusts he is mistaken by the only girl he loves. Not wanting to face his father and explain to Gemma, the shy and gentle Arthur leaves for South Africa, making everyone believe he has taken his own life. In a new environment he is thrown into the harsh realities of life, his body and soul hardend by human cruelty. 15 years later he returns to Italy where The Gadfly is born as a respected potential revolitionary. Having been through so much pain and body injuries, Gemma didn't recognise her beloved Arthur but sees him as a commorade in the dangerous revolutionary life. The Gadfly's role as a rebellious fighter places him and his father - now a cardinal - on opposite sides of the political stage. All emotions are explored when the father has to choose between his long lost son and his Lord on the cross. The baldness of the Authur takes you through a man's life where he is transformed from a naive believer of God to a sly fighter who hates God for having his father's love. The ending is so moving it will make you look at life in a whole different perspective. This is the best book I have ever read and I recommand it to everyone who loves reading, no matter when type of books they like.

Elevating

This novel isn't widely known in the US, but its popularity in Europe cannot be underestimated. This book is great for several reasons: 1)this is a romantic quest in the best sense of the word, with the protagonist larger than life, 2)this is a book about moral and religious choices that I hope none ever have to make, and the way different people may follow different paths, 3)this is a book about love in all its forms: love for the country, love between a man and a woman, love between a father and a son. It's about love for life, even when death seems a better alternative. It's too bad that this book is out of stock - but if you ever find it on the Auctions or Ebay, hurry to buy it. This is an epic no one will be able to resist.

The Gadfly

The novel of "The Gadfly" in Chinese and the movie bearing the same name, are two brilliant works of "The Gadfly" I first encountered, and loved so much, while I was in my teens, although my young age was somewhat restricted me from comprehending the conspiracies and struggles inside the hero. After so many years I finally had a chance to read the original novel by Ms. Voynich. I was thrilled. Many details were recalled and many emotional moments were re-experienced, only this time it was with more intensity and inspirations, and maybe more tears.

An epic of revolutions, religions, and moralities, this novel digs deeply about human beings and their loves - the love for their country; the love for God; the love between father and son; and the love between lovers... If its arousing power of revolt appealed me the most many years ago, now stronger the resonance in my heart is the hero's soul, his dilemmas and his complexities. From Arthur, a devotee to God, to the Gadfly, an unswerving atheist, the renouncement was triggered by the betrayal of his confessor (Father Cardi) and the deceit of his "Padre", his actual birth father, the Cardinal Montanelli, intensified through all the unimaginable sufferings (emotionally and physically) he endured, and firmed along the path of his pursuing for true believes. To me the fact that the Gadfly lived his most valuable years, and finally died, as an atheist is more intriguing in how the belief being rooted than the belief itself. In reading this book, it gave me great satisfaction in meditating over character the Gadfly, the more so because he was a human being, and a very sentimental one. With Ms. Voynich's feminine touch, the relationships, love relationships, were portrayed with immense depth and delicacy. The connection between Montanelli and the Gadfly truly stimulates me with the thoughts on God and his son, Jesus Christ. The love between Gadfly and Gemma, full of pain and pathos it was, is the purest and the most beautiful love I could ever imagine.

"Then am I a happy fly, if I live or if I die", the short verse written at the end of the letter which the Gadfly wrote to Gemma, just before his execution, is very simple, but profoundly encapsulates the Gadfly's life, one that was so short, and yet so fulfilling, and one that's likely to leave you reflecting on yours, too.

This book has a lot of basic stuff in it. It is rather easy to read and simplistic. It is a good introductory kinetics book, but be prepared to take advantage of other resources in order to accomplish your kinetics task. Not necessarily a great reference book for your graduate studies.

Kinetics for mature, sensible adults. Eye protection required.

As a medicinal chemist and enzymologist I found this book to be not to my taste. Very little attention is devoted to Michaelis Mentin and the steady state approximation. Nor is very much attention paid to the organic chemistry of the rate laws of organic reactions.

But I suppose this is necessary. This is a general text on kinetics and in that regard it is a very good one. For starters it's small, making it easy to carry. This compactness of size leads to a corollary compactness in language. It's brevity makes difficult concepts a little easier to understand because they aren't smothered in endless confusing verbiage and examples.

With the knowledge comprised here you should be prepared to utilize kinetics in almost all circumstances. However, for specific functions, such as enzymology, a more specific book on the subject is recommended.
