I read all 4 books and they all had the MILFy sizzle. The third one was my favorite though I wasn't really into the BDSM stuff found in the second. Still a great value had never found my hours wasted.

More information than I need to know, but great for reference when I have a question. And the illustrations/photographs are excellent. I hope no one considers this a "cookbook" to follow as you attempt the many procedures illustrated therein without formal maxillofacial surgery training and certification!!

An Emotional, Suspenseful, Brilliant Novel

The Lost Girls is an emotional roller-coaster of a book. I winced, I laughed, I smiled and I cried my eyes out. The plot is suspenseful, scary, harrowing and exciting. Mostly though, it is smart. While I read it, I kept thinking, "My goodness, the research this author must do to make a story so smart, so complex, so accurate." The details are intricate; there is never "just a story."

Besides the very smart and well-written plot, there are the emotional scenes, the gripping and well-developed characters, and the usual ambiguous feelings of wanting to finish it but not wanting it to be over. I hope the Lucy/Sean books are never over because I love these characters and having read all the books since Lucy was introduced back before her series, I feel like I've watched her grow up. Sean is my favorite character but I do love all the supporting characters. How I would love to be a Rogen or Kincaid or both.

Time felt like it dragged until this latest book by Allison Brennan was released and now, I've already finished it and have to wait months for the next one. At this point, I don't start to read an Allison Brennan book expecting to do anything but love it but I am still surprised each time by how much I love each book, how each manages to be even better than the last.

Another great read by Brennan

All the Lucy Kincaid novels are wonderfully wicked fast paced stories that never fail to engross and entertain the reader. I would suggest starting with the first Lucy Kincaid novel so you can follow the rich development of all the many fascinating characters that abound in these stories. Ms. Brennan has woven a wonderful tapestry between the Kincaid and Rogan clans that will have you turning pages until the wee hours of the night as both families fight against some of the world's worst deviants who prey on those unable to protect themselves. The subject matter can be horrific and appalling and take you places you'll wish you never knew about but interwoven with amazing characters so deeply concerned and committed to love and justice and each other that you'll be spellbound and always wanting more. Give this author a read and you'll find yourself going back for more! This voracious reader has already purchased the next book in this series due out next year.

Once again I knew I wouldn't be able to start this book without reading entirely at one time. Love, love this group of characters and their relationship to each other. Love Lucy and her strength . It was non stop movement from beginning to end. Wish I had the words Mrs. Brennan does to explain how much I enjoy reading her books. I know there are truly evil people in this world but there are also truly good and wonderful people to balance that evil. We all have strength we don't realize we have. Mrs Brennan shows this in her books which makes me return to read when she writes.

William Navidi is Professor of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at the Colorado School of Mines.  He received the B.A. degree in mathematics from New College, the M.A. in mathematics from Michigan State University, and the Ph.D. in statistics from the University of California at Berkeley.  Professor Navidi has authored more than 50 research papers both in statistical theory and in a wide variety of applications including computer networks, epidemiology, molecular biology, chemical engineering, and geophysics.

This book was alright for learning engineering statistics, but it wasn't as easy to follow and 'dumbed down' as I hoped it would be. It was a very challenging class and I wish the text book had done a little better job of explaining.

Long on the JavaScript, Perfect on the PHP and XML, and Just Right with Ajax

Ajax for Dummies by Steve Holzner relayed information on JavaScript, XML, PHP, CSS, and Ajax--even delving into some basic CSS for those non-designing programmers. Holzner enlightens us to the intricacies of Ajax, starting with the XMLHttpRequest object, including listings of the object's methods and properties. From there, Holzner shows how to use Ajax methods to access information in text files, PHP scripts, and XML files: a whole chapter is dedicated to XML and Ajax; another chapter, PHP.

What is Ajax? Ajax gets behind-the-scenes data from the server to use in your Web page on the fly without you having to refresh the page or without the page flickering annoyingly. For instance, imagine if every time you entered a letter into the Google search field, the whole screen flickered and refreshed as Google searched for a list of words with those same starting letters. I bet you would avoid Google at all cost if that were the case. Thankfully, there's Ajax.

Back to the book, the PHP section appeared friendly, with a light, yet complete introduction to PHP. Holzner shows how the PHP server-side script can code XML data for use with Ajax. He articulates on the Get and Post methods for sending data to the server-side program, and explains how to use a server side script to access outside domains such as Google.

Ajax frameworks take center stage in the book as well. The author provides his own framework, and throughout the frameworks introduced, sprinklings abound of framework events and functions such as drag and drop, pop-up menus, and downloading images behind the scene. One framework even provides examples for making a drag-and-drop shopping cart (without the payment gateway). The Livegrid framework allows you to display and sort table data fetched behind the scenes.

The CSS and Ajax component provides flashes of insight into how to show and hide a menu with Ajax. Although some rather basic CSS finds itself in this section, the overall content engages the reader nicely. More bluntly, this chapter is more of a CSS introduction than an Ajax--CSS tutorial. The JavaScript section, too, lines up as an introduction to the ins-and-outs of basic programming. What else would one expect from a Dummie's book?

Be forewarned, the reader should have some basic HTML and CSS knowledge before delving into this book (and preferably, HTML5 and CSS3, in that order). Best yet, the reader would have a background in JavaScript already (after reading HTML5 and CSS3), even on a rudimentary scale. Most ideally, however, the reader could have background knowledge of PHP, as the PHP chapter in this book makes for a nice refresher to those with introductory PHP skills.

Overall, Holzner wrote a compelling book, drifting from the basics to the complex in a straightforward, easy to follow manner. I would recommend it for people relatively new to Ajax or for people interested in learning more about frameworks.

An OK book harmed by many typos

A maybe 3 stars. The typos are amazing. It's as if Mr. Holzner never looked at the finished product. Here's some lines from Page 81:

What is this? (And this is one of MANY MANY). Was there even a proofreader? Wiley People: Hire someone already. Many typos, like every page is filled with typos. Headings in the middle of text, just weird stuff. bgcolor when it should be bgColor; not a biggie but indicative. There clearly was no attempt at all to review the book before publication.

Ajax for Dummies has SERIOUS ERRORS

I started reading through the Ajax for Dummies book hoping I could get something valuable out of it, but ended up only in frustration and lost a great amount of trust in the book series.

Learning how to write JavaScript functions was not much of an issue, with a typo here and there, and I actually got something out of the second chapter of the book. The examples seemed to match up to my level of understanding, and the modules actually worked!

Seeing the first Ajax example displayed at the beginning of the book should have been a decent caveat for me to consider doing research elsewhere, because this happened to be the example that started the downward spiral from understanding the code to not understanding why every coding example didn't work and begging the Web for answers. This very example did not work no matter how many times I went through it to look for errors and even comparing it to the online downloadable files STRAIGHT FROM THE COMPLIMENTARY WEBSITE!

I decided to continue on after a wasted evening battling with the script. This only led me to believe that every single example in the book has some kind of debilitating error, because something as simple as connecting a function to an image event did not do anything.

As told by the other frustrated designers anxious to delve into the power of Ajax, this book is a severe breaker of trust that contains a staggering amount of errors right from the get-go, and needs to be properly edited for a new edition that people can actually learn and gain experience from. Now stepping down off my soapbox!

This is a great little book to enhance a student's sentence writing in 30 minutes a day. My ESL tutee is in need of enhancement in his oral and written English skills, and this book will be worth his time. Since he is in need of increasing his English skills, a daily 30 minutes will help him increase his fluidity in writing.

This book is a good review of common grammatical rules that come in to play when writing sentences, and the most frequent pitfalls that tend to affect one's writing. It is a better text for those who have some previous understanding of grammar rules and writing styles, but it can still help those who need to learn as well as those who need to review.

The Beat movement nurtured many female dissidents and artists who contributed to Beat culture and connected the Beats with the second wave of the women's movement. Although they have often been eclipsed by the men of the Beat Generation, the women's contributions to Beat literature are considerable.

Covering writers from the beginning of the movement in the 1950s and extending to the present, this book features interviews with nine of the best-known women Beat writers, including Diane di Prima, ruth weiss, Joyce Johnson, Hettie Jones, Joanne Kyger, Brenda Frazer (Bonnie Bremser), Janine Pommy Vega, Anne Waldman, and the critic Ann Charters. Each is presented by a biographical essay that details her literary or scholarly accomplishments.

In these recent interviews the nine writers recall their lives in Beat bohemia and discuss their artistic practices. Nancy M. Grace outlines the goals and revelations of the interviews, and introduces the community of female Beat writers created in their conversations with the authors.

Although they have not received attention equal to the men, women Beat writers rebelled against mainstream roles for young women and were exuberant participants in creating the Beat scene. Mapping their unique identities in the Beat movement, Ronna C. Johnson shows how their poetry, fiction, and memoirs broke the male rule that defined Beat women as silent bohemian "chicks" rather than artistic peers.

Breaking the Rule of Cool combines the interviews with literary criticism and biography to illustrate the vivacity and intensity of women Beat writers, and argues that American literature was revitalized as much by the women's work as by that of their male counterparts.

Nancy M. Grace, a professor of English at the College of Wooster, is the author of The Feminized Male Character in Twentieth-Century Literature. Her work has appeared in Contemporary Literature, the Beat Scene, and the Artful Dodge.

Ronna C. Johnson, a lecturer in English and American Studies at Tufts University, has been published in College Literature, the Review of Contemporary Fiction, and the Poetry Project Newsletter. Johnson and Grace are the editors of and contributors to Girls Who Wore Black: Women Writing the Beat Generation.
